ALA President's Program featuring Sarah Lewis

ALA President's Program featuring Sarah Lewis

Lewis is author of The Rise: Creativity, the Gift of Failure, and the Search for Mastery.

For The Rise, Lewis conducted research on artists, scientists, and historical figures both past and present to learn of their stories of failure and resiliency.   She shares these stories in the book while trying to redefine failure.  She suggests that failure is a gift as it forces us to find new and different paths. New paths that if nurtured through creativity, grit, and time spent in our "Private Domain" (time spent alone) will leads us towards success.

Failure, defining it, learning from it, redefining it, etc. etc. seems to be a trending topic both at Midwinter and Annual.

Lewis was an engaging speaker.  I have a copy of her book, The Rise, that I would be happy to lend to anyone interested.

She also presents one of 2014's Most Powerful TED Talks, Embracing the Near Win
